THE EDIBLE INSECTS PROJECT-Feeding the planet with new sustainable sources

The necessity to guarantee food security to an always growing global population, that by 2050 is estimated to be greater than 9 Billion people, has driven with increasing interest to insect use as a protein source for humans and animal feed.
The Edible Insects project wants to assert that consumption and breeding of edible insects represents one of the necessary ways to secure an increase in global food production in a sustainable way.
The complexity and ever-growing quantity of scientific informations offers us a great indication of the importance of this theme in recent fields of study.

Global Food Ethics Project

The Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics, along with the Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, launched the Global Food Ethics Project to take on the challenge of working through conflicting visions of what it means to feed the world ethically and find a concrete path forward even in the absence of consensus about ethical commitments and values.

The main product of the first phase of the Global Food Ethics project is the 7 by 5 Agenda for Ethics and Global Food Security.

CaffExpò: a series of discussions and debates related to the main topic “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”of the oncoming initiative EXPO Milano 2015. CaffExpò was born from an idea of the Research Center OPERA, and was further developed thanks to the cooperation with the students of the Agrisystem PhD school and the Athenaeum Center ExpoLAB.
Wine Observatory Sustainability

The Wine Observatory Sustainability is a web platform aiming to collect and coordinate existing experiences on sustainability in the wine sector to foster synergies and cooperation between the various actors in the wine value chain.

OpenTEA (Open Training and Education Association) is a web-platform that aims to build and promote pragmatic and scientifically sound e-learning and e-training courses  about sustainability in the agro-food sector.

The European Union’s ERASMUS+ Sustainable Use of Pesticides Training (SUPTraining) project aims at developing and demonstrating an innovative e-learning platform to train professional users, advisors and distributors of plant protection products (PPPs) for their sustainable use, addressing the topics specified in the framework of the 2009/128/EC Directive.


Piacecibosano, a food production network based on public participation as an outstanding example of sustainable land development

To promote and facilitate debate and dialog between academics, policy makers and business representatives, in order to create and promote economic, social and environmentally sustainable production solutions for the development of European agriculture within the wider context of addressing the challenges associated with food security, resource use, social acceptance and economic efficiency.
HEROIC (Health and Environmental Risks: Organisation, Integration and Cross-fertilisation of Scientific Knowledge) is a multi-partner coordination action project between 9 institutions from seven EU countries, funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme, started in October. The coordinator is SCHAT the Swiss Center for Human Applied Toxicology of the University of Basel.
BEVISICURO (in English words DRINK WITH TRUST) is a network of projects promoted by two different research centres of the Università Cattolica, OPERA and the Research Center in Biotechnoloy (CRB) .
