Clean and healthy soils are essential for achieving healthy and sustainable food systems: resilient, zero pollution, climate neutral and rich in biodiversity.
Countering soil pollution by heavy metals such as cadmium is therefore of paramount importance and despite the adoption of Fertiliser Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 setting harmonised limits on cadmium in phosphate fertilisers, Europe still needs to apply further efforts to ensure healthy and fertile soils.
