Student scientists for a day

YOU4BLUE is an EU-ERASMUS+ educational project for high school students implemented in 3 Mediterranean islands: Sardinia, Crete and Mallorca. The project, coordinated by OPENTea and involving OPERA, aims to promote a broad experience of sustainability for high school students, where marine resources are not only seen as a source of food but also of leisure, spirituality, sports activities, culture.

In the next exchange that will take place at the end of September in Palma de Mallorca, the Citizen Science workshop will be activated for the students participating in the project and who will be invited to collect, through the suggested tools and apps, a series of data to discover and learn about the biodiversity of the island. The workshop will be managed by Maura Calliera and the other scientific referents of the project (Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), The Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), and Laguna di Nora). This experience, combined with other skills transmitted throughout the project, such as video and image processing and the structuring of a podcast, will be preparatory for the organization of the event to raise awareness in the local community regarding a marine area that requires restoration interventions, which the students and schools will be required to organize.
